Executive Director’s Message
There’s a lot in bloom at the Institute this spring! And we are all very excited!
As many of you know, my roots in hospice run deep, and as palliative care expands into the community, hospices are a natural place for palliative care programs to take root. That’s why I am pleased to announce that we have launched a new collaboration between the Institute and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). This collaboration will benefit hospices, palliative care providers, and will ultimately make palliative care more accessible to patients and their families.
Everyone has recognized that a key member of the care “team” when it comes to palliative and end-of-life-care is your insurance company. We need health plans to not only cover the cost of palliative care services provided by a team, but also to have their case managers understand what palliative care is and how to engage patients, families and community resources with this care. We recently finished the pilot of our Palliative Care for Case Managers program, with glowing reviews. Participants have given us feedback that it has helped them reach and support patients in ways that they could not before. Be watching for our official announcement of this course, in both face-to-face and self-paced online module format very soon. Drop me a note if you would like to be on the announcement list for this program.
