Annual Honor Recognizes a Palliative Care Pioneer in San Diego County
Do you know a healthcare professional whose groundbreaking work in palliative care has made a profound impact in the greater San Diego community?
The CSU Shiley Institute for Palliative Care is seeking nominations for the 4th annual Doris A. Howell, MD, Award for Advancing Palliative Care, designed to recognize a doctor, nurse, social worker or other health professional whose contributions, dedication, and compassion have helped transform palliative care in San Diego County.
This award is accompanied by a $25,000 gift to the organization with whom the recipient is affiliated. The gift is made possible by San Diego philanthropist and palliative care champion Darlene Marcos Shiley.
The award is named after the late Dr. Howell, a legendary physician and pioneer in pediatric hematology, oncology, and community medicine who in 1977 founded San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine.
To be eligible for the Doris A. Howell, MD, Award for Advancing Palliative Care, a nominee must be a health professional in the greater San Diego area who exhibits the pioneering spirit in caring for the suffering embodied by Dr. Howell.
