Collaboration With NHPCO

By Helen McNeal

As many of you know, my roots in hospice run deep. That’s why I am so pleased to announce that we are launching a new collaboration between the CSU Shiley Institute for Palliative Care and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO)! This collaboration will greatly benefit hospices and palliative care providers and will ultimately make palliative care more accessible to patients and their families.

What This Means for NHPCO Members

NHPCO is the oldest and largest nonprofit leadership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States. Hospices nationwide are delivering more facility, clinic, and home-based palliative care programs and now NHPCO members will have greater access and discounted rates for the in-depth educational content created by the Institute. By collaborating with NHPCO, the Institute is helping NHPCO member hospices access educational programming to train staff serving hospice and palliative care patients.

What This Means for the Institute

The Institute’s programs are recognized as offering best practice palliative care education, both online and in-person, state-of-the-art interactive techniques and expert faculty ensure that students are prepared to apply their new knowledge immediately. One of the biggest barriers to the expansion of palliative care, both inpatient and community based, is the availability of a trained workforce. This collaboration gives the Institute the opportunity to work with hospices to help them get the well-trained workforce needed to expand into or support their palliative care programs.
