MISSION, VISION, & VALUES
The CSU Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care provides high-quality education to healthcare professionals and students, builds advocacy, and promotes research to advance the care of persons living with serious illness and their communities.
We envision a world where every health professional has the knowledge and skills to provide exceptional whole person care, and care is at the heart of healthcare.
“Inspiring exceptional whole person care”
Our team prioritizes and models these values in our interactions with students, faculty, organizations, and each other.
Quality and rigor of our programs
Career development programs for palliative care professionals often fall into two extremes: They are either expensive academic degree programs or in-person fellowships, or short surface-level online courses. Our online palliative care learning experience is different. Our instructor-led certificate programs rival the depth and richness of academic programs or in-person clinical training, with the accessibility, affordability, and convenience of online learning. Our interactive self-paced courses are packed with interactive learning activities and evidence-based strategies that can immediately be put into practice, all backed by the standards of California State University.
“I am so pleased to support a program that will ultimately benefit others the way I have been personally helped. My late husband’s experience with hospice and palliative care made me realize how specialized and important the field of palliative care is today and the growing need for such care in the future.”
