Giving to the Institute
At the CSU Institute for Palliative Care (Institute), we believe that palliative care can transform health care, making it more patient-centered and responsive to each individual’s needs and wishes. We also believe that education is the fire that will make that transformation possible … by educating today’s workforce, tomorrow’s workforce and individuals in communities around the world.
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.William Butler Yeats
Founded in September 2012, the California State University Institute for Palliative Care is a systemwide initiative of the California State University (CSU), and the country’s leading educational and workforce development initiative dedicated to improving access to and awareness of palliative care.
Leveraging the Power of the CSU
Through its 23 campuses, the CSU is not only America’s largest university system, it is also the largest healthcare workforce development engine. Each year the CSU graduates more than 15% of the national graduating healthcare workforce. We strive to ensure that each graduating professional knows about palliative care.
Achieving our Mission
The mission of the Institute is to increase access to and awareness of palliative care by:
- Educating current professionals
- Educating the future workforce
- Building community awareness and advocacy…
… and to accomplish this by creating a model at Cal State San Marcos and then replicating it at interested campuses across California and the U.S.
Since inception the Institute has trained more than more than 5,000 healthcare professionals through our online and face to face programs; we have educated over 6,000 students and reached more than 10,000 community members across California. However, we still have much work to do.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Our mission will not be accomplished until everyone who would benefit from palliative care can access it for themselves and their family members. Help us achieve our mission by lending your support today. Your gift will enable us to continue to develop and disseminate state-of-the-art education for current and future health professionals, and community members, today and tomorrow.
