New research on palliative care education in Monterey County
At the CSU Shiley Institute for Palliative Care at CSUMB, Faculty Director Alyssa Erickson is leading research on how to best deliver palliative care education to health professionals in Monterey County. The feasibility study will shape a plan to help local clinicians deliver high quality, culturally appropriate care to people with serious illnesses and their families. In 2019, the project was awarded a $60,000 grant by the Hospice Giving Foundation.
“Symposium attendees and presenters are committed to palliative care education and research. Their work and lives inspire me. The keynote, plenary, poster, and breakout presentations all reinforce a commitment to holistic healthcare, with attention to educational and clinical excellence, spirituality, self-care, artistic expression, and/or caregiver support.”

“The Advanced Practice Certificate course is not clinical supervision, but is the closest thing to it that I’ve seen in a curriculum. It combines top-notch case-based learning with the very best clinical mentorship. Anyone who goes through the course and invests in their learning, should be well prepared for the certification exam.”
