Palliative care is patient-centered, whole-person care that helps manage the symptoms of serious illness, allowing patients and families to live their best lives possible.
The Institute, headquartered at California State University San Marcos, was created to expand access to and awareness of palliative care by educating current and future health professionals in critical palliative care skills such as advance care planning, clear and compassionate communication, pain and symptom management, psychosocial and spiritual care, and more.
Since 2012, more than 20,000 health professionals have enrolled in institute courses and more than 25,000 undergraduate students in California have participated in palliative care education and awareness campaigns led by the institute’s campus partners.
