To recognize National Hospice and Palliative Care Month in November, the CSU Shiley Institute for Palliative Care is offering $25,000 in scholarships to San Diego County health professionals seeking convenient, high-quality online palliative care education.

The annual Donald and Darlene Marcos Shiley Scholarships cover the full cost of tuition in any of the Institute’s online courses. Last year, Shiley scholarships were awarded to 13 nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other health professionals working in San Diego County.

Scholarship applications are available now and can be accessed by visiting csupalliativecare.org/funding/scholarship/. The deadline to apply is midnight Nov 15.

Palliative care is patient-centered, whole-person care that helps manage the symptoms of serious illness, allowing patients and families to live their best lives possible.

The Institute, headquartered at California State University San Marcos, was created to expand access to and awareness of palliative care by educating current and future health professionals in critical palliative care skills such as advance care planning, clear and compassionate communication, pain and symptom management, psychosocial and spiritual care, and more.

Since 2012, more than 20,000 health professionals have enrolled in institute courses and more than 25,000 undergraduate students in California have participated in palliative care education and awareness campaigns led by the institute’s campus partners.
