Palliative Care Scholarships Announced

$25,000 in Scholarships Awards Will Be Given Again This Year

The training a professional receives in palliative care makes a difference in many lives… not only in the lives of patients and families touched by that professional, but in the individual who makes the effort to take the course.

Last year, to celebrate National Hospice and Palliative Care month, the California State University Shiley Institute for Palliative Care gave 13 scholarships to Southern California health professionals to take its courses for nurses, social workers and chaplains.

One of the awardees described her course experience this way:

Tina Testimonial“I can’t tell you how happy I am to have completed such an inspiring course. Having the opportunity to hear & discuss these sensitive issues with other experts in the field was so enriching. Sometimes when you are out in the field, you can feel like you are all alone on an island. Being able to share experiences is so powerful.

Anytime that I am able to learn new techniques, skills, experiences is a great day. I feel that because of this course, I will be able to conduct much more meaningful assessments, contribute to ongoing development in program development and also assessment tool creation.

“Sometimes when you are out in the field, you can feel like you are all alone on an island.”

On a personal level, I found that this course helped me to really look within to reassess my own personal self in addition to my professional self. For this, I am most appreciative. I can’t thank you enough for this opportunity.”
